WORKING GROUPS
Australia's initial five working groups have been set-up by theme and sector and can be expanded as required. These groups will identify key opportunities where real differences can be made in the food-fibre chain with the philosophy of improving planet, product and profit underpinning strategies.

Livestock and Livestock Products
Climate Change
Water
Horticulture
Grains
Biofuels
Customer Demand

A significant amount of work in the Global SAI Platform is undertaken through working groups which aim to develop, promote and implement sustainable agricultural practices.

These groups can be sectoral (i.e. product or industry-based) or thematic (issue-based).

The general framework for working groups adopted by the Global Platform revolves around three key activities:

1)

2)
3)
Development of documents: mission statement, principles and practices, and indicators for sustainability
Stakeholder consultation
Pilot testing and roll-out under the responsibility of companies

The idea is for each working group to draw upon this framework but it can develop its own plan and approach.
